At 91 m tall and with spectacular views over Leipzig, the monument to the Battle of the Nations is Europe’s largest monument. Born from the ashes of European conflict, this 300,000 tonne colossus was built to commemorate the largest battle in human history until that point, in which much of Europe united to defeat Napoleon Bonaparte and his allies. This guided tour will explore the monument’s construction and fascinating history while paying particular attention to the topics of European remembrance and reconciliation.
